What Payment Assist is

Payment Assist is a UK finance provider that lets you split the cost of a car repair, service or MOT-related job across a few easy monthly instalments. Think of it as the same idea as Klarna or Clearpay, applied to the bill at your local garage instead of an online shop.

There is no interest. There are no hidden fees. It is a straightforward way to spread a one-off bill across a small number of monthly payments without it costing more than the original quote.

How it works, step by step

Choose a plan length when you book in. The standard plans are 3, 4 or 6 months, all interest-free
Pay an initial deposit on the day, by debit card
The remainder is taken automatically from the same debit card in equal monthly instalments on agreed dates
You receive email confirmation as soon as the plan is approved, usually within minutes

You can do the application yourself on the Payment Assist site, or we can help you complete it at the workshop when you drop the car off.

For plans up to one thousand pounds, no credit check is required, so applying will not affect your credit score. For larger amounts a soft credit check is run, which still leaves no mark on your record.

Common questions

For finance plans up to one thousand pounds, no credit check is run, so there is zero impact on your credit score. For plans above one thousand pounds a soft check is used, which is visible only to you and does not affect your score.

Plans typically start at around fifty pounds. Below that it is usually simpler to pay in one go. Above that, the 3, 4 or 6 month plans are all interest-free.

The application takes a few minutes on a phone or tablet. Confirmation arrives by email almost immediately if approved. You can apply in advance of your booking, or at the workshop when you drop the car off.

Yes. Most workshop work is eligible, including MOT testing, servicing, repairs and tyres. The forty pound MOT can be spread alongside any associated work if you want to bundle the bill.
